Naujan, A Poem

8

A Poem by Ruben Genilo
(As taken from Naujan Yearbook 1988)

Yonder you see a place serene
With breeze so fresh, so cool and clean
Lie verdant fields of varied plants
The native hopes in time of wants here

This is Naujan our native land
Where our forebears worked hard to found
They who had dreamed and died unsung
They who aspired to have a town

This is our place, this is our town
The nest of Mother’s a place sublime
Our fathers realm – a paradise
Of children and happy wise

Happy we are to live a place
Truly endowed with nature’s grace
Placid and calm with faith embrace
Stand united when called to raise

The visitors upon seeing
The plaza view upon coming
With all speak its beautiful
Your park is nice it’s wonderful

Rivers and lake within its breast
Abundant fish do thrive and rest
On meal tables is served so fresh
As viands all of families

To God we ask and do implore
To always bless our town so pure
And shower us his grace and love
In happiness we all do thrive

Thank you for the poem. I was wondering where I got my inclination to write. Genilo sounds familiar. Every line, every stanza brings me back to the province where my grandparents lived, where I spent my first six years.

Congratulations, Grand – pere’ for the poem. It clearly depicted your love for the place. In a way the literary piece collated memories of my childhood, the invisible thread which still binds me to my late lola.

Take care and regards…
